I Only Want to Be with You
Okay, okay. I get it. Free is the new black: Everybody’s giving away free tracks. But I haven’t - till now. Not because I’m cheap, but because I want to make sure I’m on the right side of the copyright laws.
But I understand how the world works: If I want you to like my music, you have to hear my music. And why should you pay for the privilege? So I bought a digital download license and I’m going to take advantage of Tumblr’s download feature and let you listen to - and keep - a track I’ve never released before.
It’s “I Only Want to Be With You” by Ivor Raymonde and Mike Hawker. Dusty Springfield had a hit with it back in the ’60s, and Shelby Lynne has just recorded it on her new Dusty Springfield tribute album, but I hear it differently than either of those fine singers.
